Filmmaker, Explorer, CEO Lightstorm Entertainment

The director who conquered the cinema with the highest grossing film in history

James Cameron is one of the most acclaimed film directors and screenwriters in the history of cinema. He is also a film producer, film editor, engineer, philanthropist and Canadian marine explorer. In 1997 he directed Titanic, the highest grossing film in history, a record that was only surpassed by Avatar, which he directed in 2009 and the one that prepares two sequels. In 1981 he directed his first film, Piranha II: The Vampires of the Sea, and later explored various genres, such as adventure, science fiction, or fantasy. He directed Terminator and Aliens, the return. His interest in the deep sea led him to film Abyss and later Titanic.

During the last 23 years, Cameron has developed cutting-edge 3D camera systems for movies and documentaries, as well as for broadcast sports and special events. Cameron has also developed unprecedented deep ocean exploration vehicles, lighting and 3D camera equipment. He has led eight deep ocean expeditions from 1995 to 2012, including three to the Titanic wreck.

On March 26, 2012, he set the world’s solo deep diving record of 35,787’ in the Challenger Deep in a vehicle of his own design, the DEEPSEA CHALLENGER.

Cameron is a National Geographic Explorer at Large, and recipient of its most prestigious award, the Hubbard Medal, as well as the Explorer’s Club medal for Explorer of the Year.
