Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo

Bold Leader and One of the Most Sagacious Politicians, Journalists and Intellectuals in Ibero-America

"Liberal democracy, understood as the ability to choose our representatives within an order of law, to be free within the law, is the best thing that human beings have invented as a political organization."

Cayetana has stood out for his vibrant defense of liberal democracy against its enemies: populism, nationalism, separatism and identity politics.

She holds a BA in History and DPhil History from the University of Oxford. As a journalist, she has stood out for her intelligent political analyses, her chronicles and her interviews with great political and intellectual figures such as Steven Pinker, Jordan Peterson, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Álvaro Uribe and Juan Manuel Santos.

She was a deputy in Spain in 2019 and was spokesperson for the Popular Parliamentary Group in the Spanish Congress of Deputies until 2020.

Her vigorous leadership, her bold denunciation of the ills of contemporary politics, and her commitment to democratic regeneration have won her followers beyond her party and her country. Her speeches have gone viral in Spain and Latin America.

Cayetana is an "Amazonian feminist", which has made her a reference for many other women.

In 2014, together with Mario Vargas Llosa and other intellectuals, she founded the civic association Libres e Iguales to defend the Spanish constitutional order. She has received numerous awards, including the proxime accessit Gibbs Prize in History from the University of Oxford, the Micrófono de Plata from Asociación Española de Periodistas de Prensa, Radio y Televisión, and the Premio Sociedad Civil by Think Tank Civismo, among others.
