Great Duo of Entrepreneurs and Founders of One of the Most Successful Insurance Technology Companies in Miami, Lula
"LULA was rejected by 47 insurers in 2018, 600+ investors in 2019, pivoted from scratch in 2020, and rejected by YC 6 times along the way. If you apply to YC today and don't get in, just promise you'll never quit. That mindset will take you way further than any investor ever will. [...] Magic happens when you're ruthlessly persistent."
Matthew and Michael Vega-Sanz are co-founders of Lula. They were born and raised in Miami, Florida to a Puerto Rican mother and a Cuban father. Matthew is CEO of Lula and Michael is its president.
When they attended Babson College, Michael started an app that allowed college students to rent cars from one another. The app quickly went viral, becoming one of the top apps on the App Store.
Through this experience, following the pandemic, brothers Vega-Sanz had the idea for Lula, an insurance platform that helps businesses reduce their insurance costs. Lula became one of the fastest growing companies in the United States, being used by almost 5,000 businesses in 18 months, and millions of people on an annual basis.
Lula has raised $60 million in funding, builds insurance management tools for buyers and sellers of insurance, and was recently recognized as Forbes' Next Billion Dollar Startup.
For his part, Matthew was most currently selected as the digital cover star for the 2024 Forbes 30 Under 30 Class. Matthew's newest chapter is GAIL, the first AI ever built specifically for insurance.
