The Fourth Edition of the Festival de las Ideas, Puebla 2025 Has Finally Begun!

After a year of waiting, today kicked off the Festival de las Ideas, Puebla 2025, an initiative of the Centro Ricardo B. Salinas Pliego in the beautiful state of Puebla. With the theme “Espíritu Inconforme”, the Auditorio Metropolitano welcomed the most important figures of current thinking to break the established paradigms and take in our own hands the reins of our lives.

We opened the first segment with the immersive experience and tutting’ performance art of Urban Theory. Libertarian and president of Free the People, Matt Kibbe, shared with us that the most important thing for an individual and a people is freedom. To continue, we listened to the bioclimatic architect and director of DOSU Studio Architecture, Doris K. Sung, who participated with the presentation “Designing facades to improve the lives of pedestrians”, which showed that architecture can be more conscious with nature and human beings. Mstyslav Chernov, director of “20 Days in Mariupol”, winner of the Oscar and Pulitzer Prize, spoke about his experience as a war journalist and how difficult it is to share this experience with the innocent civilian population.

Likewise, the renowned international leader in the field of human development, Valentina Luján, talked about how to be happy it is necessary to leave our comfort zone and be brave, while Luis Lacalle, in his “Conversation: responsible freedom with Roberto Salinas León”, commented on his experiences as president of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, among other things.

The art segment started with the amazing Filipino singer who performed amazing male and female registers, Marcelito Pomoy and raised applause in the auditorium. The only Mexican architect who participated in the reconstruction of the Notre Dame Cathedral, Alejandro Arredondo, spoke about his life and professional experience as a Mexican architect in France. Then, the British model and bionic influencer, Tilly Lockey, gave a talk in which she explained that prostheses in the future aspire to be like in science fiction movies. Afterwards, we were joined by Jason Bevan, an expert in innovation and storytelling of successful films, who showed us several tips to be creative, including the mood (state of mind), seeing things with different perspectives, the importance of courage to do things and more. We were also graced by the presence of Michelle Couttolenc, the first Mexican woman sound engineer to win an Oscar for her work on “Sound of Metal”, who mentioned the different challenges she had to go through at the beginning of her career to achieve the Oscar Award.

And as a keynote speaker we had Sergio “Checo” Perez, the best Mexican Formula 1 driver of all time and legend of motorsport worldwide, who excited the audience very much and talked about the beginning of his career, his consolidation as a driver and his future in the top circuit.

To close the first day of activities with a flourish, sports journalist Gabo Martínez interviewed “Checo” Perez himself, who did not stop being applauded until he left the Auditorio Metropolitano.

This concluded the first day of FDI activities. On Friday, May 30, starting at 10 in the morning, the Festival de las Ideas, Puebla 2025, will continue.
